I have been at Delmae since 2000, serving as Principal. We are a K-5 school located in a rapidly growing area of Florence. In addition to standards-based instruction in language arts, math, science, and social studies, we offer art, music, and physical education. Students also receive instruction in our spanish, science and mathlabs. Students visit our Learning Commons regularly and Reading Renaissance is a part of our language arts program.
Additional literacy support is provided through the use of computer programs to include Lexia, Freckles, Seesaw and Google Classroom assignments. Our Reading Coach and Reading Interventionists also provide support and resources to students, staff and parents. Math instruction also includes teacher directed instruction utilizing the Big Ideas math program and computer based programs to include Reflex Math, Dreambox, Freckles, Seesaw and Google Classroom. Our school's math coach provides support, resources and assistance in the area of math.
Additional support personnel include two Assistant Principals, a Curriculum Technology Coach, School Counselor, School-Based Therapist, a speech clinician, an occupational therapist, ELL teachers, enhanced learning teachers, and classroom instructional assistants.
We continue our school wide STEAM focus and our Spanish Language Immersion Program will begin it's sixth year during the 2021-2022 school year. Delmae Became AdvancED STEM certified in 2017.
Delmae is a family-friendly school with lots of regularly scheduled activities for students and their families. We have lots of participation from various community groups who support our school by providing funds, special programs, and mentors for our students. We have been a member of NNPS (National Network of Partnership Schools) since 2000 and we are a part of the district's Faith-Based Initiaive.
"We Got This" is our motto as we work to help all of our students develop the world class knowledge, skills and life and career characteristics of the Profile of the Graduate while facing these newest challenges. We are accomplishing this by providing the following
- Highly qualified teachers and staff
- Instruction focused on standards and driven by data
- Differentiated instruction to meet the needs of all students
- Opportunities to incorporate technology into daily instruction
- Professional Development focused on rigor and data
- School Home and Community Partnerships that enhance student achievement
- Instructional programs that extend beyond basic basal instruction
- Opportunities to participate in both STEM and STEAM focused learning opportunities
Our highly qualified staff consists of National Board Certified Teachers, District Honor Roll Teachers, teachers with advanced degrees and teachers involved in continuous learning and growth opportunities. Our staff engages in on-going professional development provided by "in house experts" and outside consultants that focuses on rigor in the classroom, project and problem- based learning, high expectations for students and the use of data to change and focus instruction.
Our teachers work collaboratively to plan for instruction. The instructional program includes differentiated instruction, research-based supplemental programs. In addition, through our participation in Verizon’s Project Lead the Way Grant, and in the district’s Discovery Learning Digital Pathfinders Program we have begun our move towards becoming a STEAM certified school.
Excellence is our goal at Delmae. This is evident in our school being the recipient of the state’s Palmetto Gold and Silver Awards for excellence in academic performance and consecutive NNPS (National Network of Partnership School) Awards.
